Backlist Books by Authors with New Books

If you’re anything like me you have a list of books to read that you keep pushing to the back of the list until something gives way to finally get me to pick it up. It’s not that I’m not looking forward to the book, I am! It’s on my TBR and I’m really interested in it, I just keep finding other books that feel more urgent. Often, what changes and bumps a book up my urgency ladder is when the author has new book.

Here is a short list of upcoming books matched with the author’s previous books I (and maybe you) have not yet read. There’s still time to catch up.

Pachinko by Min Jin Lee

I’ve intended to read Pachinko ever since it came out. When I traveled to South Korea for work, I was struck by the complex and traumatic generational history between Korea and Japan. This novel follows the lives of Koreans living in Japan, where they remain outsiders.

Now with American Hagwon coming in September, I need to get moving. I also haven’t read Min Jin Lee’s first novel, Free Food for Millionaires.

North Woods by Daniel Mason

I missed Daniel Mason’s North Woods when everyone I know seemed to be reading it. Now Country People will be out in a few weeks. Growing up in New England and living in the northeast for many years, I’m very curious about these novels.

Mason also has a significant back-list: The Piano Tuner, A Registry of My Passage Upon the Earth: Stories, and The Winter Soldier.

Harlem Shuffle by Colson Whitehead

I have too many Colson Whitehead books on my TBR. Now, with the completion of his Harlem Trilogy, Harlem Shuffle, the first book in the trilogy, is probably the best place for me to start.

The second book is Crook Manifesto followed by his latest due out in a few weeks, Cool Machine.
