Story Saturday: “The Island at Noon” by Julio Cotárzar

I was introduced to this story and Julio Cortárzar in a seminar given by writer, Laura van den Berg. The mixing of reality and the uncanny in “The Island at Noon” and in the rest of the stories in the collection, All Fires the Fire, is the kind of genre blending I love. The story’s ending has readers interpreting it in many different ways. Though Cortárzar had a definitive resolution in mind, he recognized there were other ways to read it.

How do you interpret the ending of “The Island at Noon?”
